Compatibility
Are Julius Meinl pods compatible with Nespresso machines?
Yes. They fit all Nespresso® Original (OriginalLine) machines, including Essenza Mini, Pixie, CitiZ, Inissia, Lattissima, Creatista and Expert. They do not fit Vertuo machines.
Do they work in Nespresso Vertuo?
No. Vertuo uses a different, barcode-read capsule. Our pods are made for Nespresso® Original machines and the Julius Meinl Inspresso Pinta.
How do I know if my machine is Original or Vertuo?
Original machines use small bell-shaped capsules and have espresso/lungo buttons. Vertuo machines have a round dome lid and use large dome capsules.
Will compostable pods damage my machine or void the warranty?
No. The pods are made to Nespresso® Original dimensions. In the US, using compatible third-party pods doesn't by itself void a warranty (Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act).
Taste & choosing a blend
Which Julius Meinl pod is the strongest?
Ristretto Intenso, at intensity 10/10: a dark, full-bodied roast with a touch of Robusta.
Which is best for lattes and cappuccinos?
Ristretto Intenso, whose strength comes through milk. For a softer milk drink, choose Espresso Crema.
Which is best for a straight espresso?
Espresso Crema (8/10): round and balanced, with a thick golden crema and low bitterness.
Is there a 100% Arabica pod?
Yes, Lungo Classico: 100% Central and South American Arabica with notes of malt, almond and fresh bread.
Is there a decaf?
Yes, Espresso Decaffeinato (8/10), which is sweet and creamy with a soft cereal aroma.
Do Julius Meinl pods taste bitter?
Generally not. The Viennese-style roast is smooth and rounded. Our pods average 4.9/5 across 67 verified reviews.
Sustainability
Are the pods compostable?
Yes, home compostable. The capsule, lid and coffee break down completely in about 26 weeks in a home compost.
Do they contain aluminum or plastic?
No. They're aluminum-free and plastic-free, with an oxygen barrier to keep the coffee fresh.
How do I dispose of a used pod?
Put the whole pod in your home compost or in municipal food waste, where accepted. Don't put it in recycling.
